Part 7

After dinner the team of three each took a book and was going to try to decode it that night. Nina headed up to her room, the second book tucked in her arm.
“Nina,” Amber jumped up. “Guess what my daddy sent me?”
“What?” Nina asked trying not to look completely interested in what her roommate was saying.
“These new pair of shoes,” Amber held up a cute mar of flats. “And he said he’s coming to parent night this year,” she added with a squeal.
“They’re nice,” Nina sat on her bed. “And that’s great that your dad’s coming.”
“What’s wrong?”  Amber noticed that Nina’s mind was wandering.
“My Gran gave me some of my parent’s journal’s and I just can’t stop thinking about them,’ Nina sighed.
“Well, what do they say?”
“I have no idea,” the chosen one sighed again.
“Wow, your dad must have had terrible handwriting if you can’t read it. Let me see,” the blonde held out her hand. Reluctantly, Nina handed her the journal. “This writing is amazing, how can you not read it!”
“You try reading it then,” Nina rolled her eyes.
“What no way! It says you and Eddie are twins!”
“How did you figure it out it's written in code?”
“You and Eddie are twins?”
“Yeah, I tell you the story in a minute. How did you read it?”
“It’s just every other letter makes a word,” Amber explained. “You know, just because I’m blonde doesn’t mean I’m not smart.” Amber stroked her locks. “You And Eddie are related?”
“Uh...Yeah,” Nina started.
“And you didn’t tell me,”Amber yelled.
“I didn’t know until today,” Nina sighed.
“How do you not know you have a brother?”
“I just didn’t.”
“Wow.”
“Nobody ever told me”

Part 5

“It’s just a bunch of books,” Eddie remarked, looking at the contents of the box.
“Journals, moleskines, actually,” Fabian pointed out.
“My dad kept journals in moleskins,” Nina whispered. “When I was little he used to read to me out of them, the journals of where he and mom traveled, from France, Australia, England, and stories he used to write.”
“They’re numbered,” Fabian pointed out.
“Well, then let’s start with number one,” Eddie suggested.

Nina pulled journal one out of the box, “It’s my dad’s handwriting,” still talking in a whisper, “‘Nina,’” she started to read, “‘First off I want to apologize for keeping secrets from you, but we didn’t have much of a choice.’” Nina fought to hold back tears while she continued to read, “‘Read each of the books and at the end you will find,’” Nina stopped.
“Well go on,” Eddie urged.
“I can’t, the rest is in code,” she flipped the pages of the book.
“Are all of them in code?” Eddie asked.
“Yeah,” Fabian said, flipping through every book.
“Uugggghhhh,” Eddie rolled his eyes. “We are never going to figure this out.”
“Nina, does any of this look familiar?” Fabian asked.
Nina flipped through another book, “All I know is that the squares are spaces.”
“And how can you be sure of that?” Eddie commented.
“When I was little, my dad and I used to make up secret codes and a square in between every word always meant a space,” Nina explained.
“Wait, you and your dad made up codes?” Fabian frowned like he did when he concentrates.
“Yeah, it was like a hobby.”
‘He might of used one of the codes you guys made up!” Fabian exclaimed. “Do you remember any of them?”
“Uh,” Nina thought, “there was one where the letters were written down the page instead of across. And one where the words were backwards and there was one where the letters were diagonal.”
Fabian was making a list of all the possible codes, “Is that all you remember?”
“Yeah, I’ll try to think of others,” Nina responded. The three got to work trying to figure out the codes of the books. The first book was written down the pages instead of across but none of the other books were. Realizing they would need thirteen different codes for each book the team brainstormed again.
There was a knock on the bedroom door, “Eddie,” Patricia’s voice came through the door. Nina and Fabian scrambled to put the things back in the box as Eddie opened the door.
“Hey,” Eddie said to the edgy red-head.
“Want to go see a movie tomorrow night? They have this new horror movie out.”
“Yeah, sure,” Eddie responded.
“Oh hi, Nina, Fabian, do you guys want to come too?” Patricia invited.
“Thanks, but horror movies aren’t really my thing,” Nina told Patricia. “Maybe next time.”
“Okay,” Patricia smiled, then noticed the box. “What’s that?”
“Nothing just something my dad left for me,” Nina shrugged.
“Dinner,” Trudy called from the kitchen.

Part 4

Fabian slammed the door shut behind him as he entered his bedroom, “Eddie! What the heck?”
“Hey dude, calm down,” Eddie said distracted by his computer. “Why are you all mad?”
“You and  Nina are twins! What! The! Heck!” Fabian yelled.
“Dude, where did you hear this?”
“Nina told me, today,” Fabian said.
Eddie just stared at his roommate.
“Well, do you have any explanation for this?” Fabian asked, irritated.
“She’s my sister,” Eddie shrugged.
“I know that.”
“What do you want to know then?” Eddie asked
“Why didn’t you tell me or anything, you just sit there listening to your terrible music and don’t tell me I am dating your twin sister!” Fabian yelled.
“I didn’t know I even had a sister until today, my dad never told me. And my music is not terrible,” Eddie defended himself and his music.
“Why would they separate you and Nina, it doesn’t make sense?” Fabian thought out loud while pacing. “Maybe because Nina is the chosen one, and you're her protector, but why separate the chosen one from her protector, I mean that’s just weird. If you were always with Nina, Nina would have been protected her whole life. But if you were with Nina her whole life would that put you two in danger all the time?”
“Dude, you’re over thinking the situation.”
“Fabian!” Nina burst into the room. “Look at this!” Nina held out the box her Gran just gave her.
“What is that?” Fabian asked.
“My parents left it for me, and Gran said that they told her that I would have the key to open it if the time was right,” Nina explained.
“Well, do you have the key?” Her boyfriend became interested in the box.
“I don’t know. I has the Eye of Horus on it, so maybe my locket is the key?” Nina looked at the box.
“It’s worth a try,” Fabian suggested. Nina pulled out her locket and put it against the box where the carving was. The locket glowed and the lid of the box popped open.

Part 3

“What was it that you said you were going to tell me later?” Fabian asked Nina.
“Um, uh,” Nina got up from the bed and shut the bedroom door then returned to her spot next to Fabian. “Fabian, this is really, really had for me to tell you.” She took a deep breath.
“Nina what is it?”
Another deep breath. “I’m still in shock from this, but Fabian, Eddie, Eddie and I-”
Fabian cut in, “No, Nina, you  can’t be-” He stood up.
“Can’t be what?”
“After we just got back together? Nina how could you?”
“What do you think this is about? Us?”
“Yeah! What else would you think this would be about? And Eddie has Patrica , and us, come on Nina!”
“Fabian calm down, this doesn’t involve us as a couple! It’s a different kind of relationship!” Nina yelled.
“What other relationship is there then?”
“Fabian, if you would of just listened to me, you would know that Eddie is my brother,” Nina whispered.
“And your not just hurting me your hurting Patrica- wait, what?”
“Eddie and I are twins,” Nina told Fabian.
“Since when?” Fabian asked, confused and surprised.
“Since the day I was born,” Nina responded trying to remain calm.
“Why didn’t you tell me this before?”
“I didn’t know, Mr. Sweet told me today, and my parents never told me before the died.”
“That means Sweetie is your dad too,” Fabian realized.
“Yeah. I’m still really confused about the whole thing and I think I should ask Gran about this, ya know, see if she knew anything.”
“That would be a good idea.”
“Yeah, so I’m gonna go and find her and, please, please, please don’t tell anyone,” Nina pleaded then left, leaving Fabian alone to think.
Nina headed outside to find her Gran sitting on a bench and reading. She took a seat next to her.
“Did you know that I was adopted?” Nina asked.
“Dear, you weren't adopted, I remember your mother being pregnant, where did you get that idea from?”
“Gran, today I learned that I have a twin brother, you didn’t hear anything from mom or dad about me, I was adopted Gran.”
“Nina that’s obscure, I was with your mother when she was giving birth.”
“So, I’m not adopted?”
“Nina your not, unless there was something that Leyla never told me.”
“So you’re sure I’m not adopted?”
“ Positive, and speaking of your mother, I have something of hers that’s for you.”
‘Really, what is it?” Nina got excited.
“Your mother left you a box, just hours before she died she told me, ‘Give this to Nina when the time is right, she’ll have the key’ and I just have happened to bring it with me to England.”
“Really? Where is it?” Nina asked joyfully.
“It’s in my suitcase, come I’ll get you it,” Nina followed her Gran into the house and up the stairs to her room.
After digging in her suitcase, Nina’s Gran finally pulled out an old wooden box and handed it to Nina.
“I don’t know how it opens or anything about it, but maybe you can figure it out?”
“Maybe I can,” Nina smiled catching a glimpse of the small eye of Horus carved into the side of the box. She knew the box would open a new mystery.

Part 2

“That’s impossible, my parents are dead, both of them, they died when I was four,” Nina responded to the shocking news.
“Yes your adoptive parents died, but not your biological parents,” Mr. Sweet told his daughter.
“Wait,” Eddie said, “so, Nina”s my sister?”
“Twins, I think,” Nina remarked.
“Exactly, twins,” their dad confirmed.
“Who’s older?” Eddie asked.
Nina rolled her eyes.
“Nina, by ten minutes,” Mr. Sweet answered.
“So that must mean that you were at seven ten in the morning,” Nina told Eddie. “I wonder why no one told me I was adopted.”
“Why did you let Nina get adopted? Or why her? Or why not the both of us?” Eddie seemed to ask questions nonstop now. “Why wasn’t I adopted? Why didn’t you tell me that I was the osirian?”
“Eddie,” Mr, Sweet stopped his son. “The both of you better get back to class, we’ll talk later.” Eddie opened the office door, letting Nina, his twin sister out first.
“I can’t believe this,” Nina walked down the hall, talking to herself, Eddie following her, “why would my parents never tell me this? Why didn’t Gran tell me? Does she even know?”
“Nina, hey,” Nina turned to look at Eddie, “hey can we talk?”
“What’s to talk about?” Nina kept walking.
Eddie ran to catch up to her and grabbed her shoulder and turned her around, “How ‘bout the fact that were related?”
Nina brushed Eddie’s hand off of her shoulder, “I’m sorry Eddie, I just can’t deal with this now. Not right after the whole mask, and Senkarah thing. I need a break.”
“Nina, don’t you think we should talk about this, as a family?”
“Eddie, I’m sorry, just give me some time to think. And I jut really can’t think of us as family now.”
“Then should I keep this a secret, the whole sibling thing?”
Nina nodded, “That, would be nice.”
“Your going to have to tell one day.”
“Eddie, please just let me have a day,” Nina was angry at Eddie.
“Look at us were already arguing like real siblings, oh wait we are real siblings! Well, whatdayou know?”
“Eddie, Stop!” Nina yelled.

Part 1

Nina and Fabian shred another kiss before heading up to bed at precisely 10 o'clock. Nina went to her room happy, knowing she was free of Senkarah's wrath. Fabian, torn, knowing that Eddie would always have a special place in Nina’s life.
The next day, the Subinas gathered in Robert’s office, each of them putting their amulet back on the hooks where they first found them. Nina placed the painting back over the necklaces, leaving them for someone else to find many many years later.
“Wait,” Fabian stopped Nina. He pulled a slip of paper out of his pocket and taped it on one of the amulets.
Nina read it aloud, “‘The journey you want to embark on has already been done, the mask is hidden, the puzzles are solved.’ I like it.” She smiled.
“Yeah, just so no one goes through the trouble of trying to find the mask,” Fabian said. The gang stood back and looked at the portrait of Robert.
“You’re one crazy man, Robert,” Patricia thought aloud.
“Yeah, a wack- a-doo,” Alfie agreed.
“I’m just glad that it’s over with and there’s no more crazy ghost lady threatening to kill us and that I can get a full night’s worth of beauty sleep,” Amber shared her thoughts.
The gang laughed and headed upstairs and out the front door.
“Fabian,” Nina stopped in the entry hall.
Fabian walked over to her.
“Thanks.”
“For what?” He questioned.
“For,” she paused, “for everything.”
“No problem, anyways, I like being with you,” he flirted.
Nina smiled and leaned in closer.
“Why aren’t you in school?” Victor’s voice boomed, ruining the moment.
“Sorry, Victor we were just leaving,” Nina stammered. The two left the house.
Victor watched the two leave from his office window and fiddled with the ring that once belonged to his dad. He opened it, looking at the last tear of gold.
“Edison Sweet and Nina Martin, pleas report to my office now,” Mr. Sweet’s voice rang across the entire school over the loud speaker. “Now,” he reinforced. Eddie  and Nina got up from their desks and looked at each other. As they headed out the door Nina turned back to see Fabian and his puzzled expression. Nina returned the puzzling glace back at him.
“Why would you dad want to see the both of us?” Nina Asked Eddie as they went down the hall.
Edie shrugged, “Maybe it’s about last night?”
Nina stopped in her tracks, “Eddie, what did you tell your dad?”
“Besides that I’m something called an osirian, and that you’re some kind of chosen one, nothing,” Eddie remembered.
“Eddie, one thing about the whole chosen one thing is that nobody knows besides those who saw what has happened,it’s all secret,” Nina told Eddie, almost angry at him.
“What if my dad has answers? He choked when I said osirian,” Eddie told Nina.
“He definitely knows something,” Nina told Eddie before they opened the door to Mr. Sweet’s office.
Mr. Sweet greeted them, “Ah, Eddie, Nina. I need to talk to you two, but Eddie first. Nina do you mind stepping out for a moment?”
“No, not at all, I’ll be in the hall,” Nina responded before exiting the office.
“Eddie, yesterday you asked me something about the osirian, did you not?”
“Yeah, I did,” Eddie told his father. “What is the osirian?”
“The osirian is the chosen one’s protector. And you are the osirian. And I belive that Nina is the chosen one.”
“She is. What is all of this though? I mean chosen one, osirian?”
“It is all from ancient Egypt. There were Gods and Goddesses, particular items, some of which Robert found and others that are still lost to this day.”
“Okayyy but what does this have to do with me, or Nina or the others?”
“Nina, is the chosen one and she got  the others involved, but you are Nina’s protector, you must keep her safe.”
“That’s a big job, can’t Fabian do it or something? I mean he would love to protect Nina.”
“No. You were chosen as the osirian and you must protect Nina,” Mr. Sweet explained to his son. “There are some other things you should know, and I think Nina might want to hear these. Could you please tell Nina she can come in?”

Eddie stuck his head out of the door, “You can come in now,” he said to Nina. Nina headed into the office.
“Nina, I’ve always known you you’d be the chosen one, because of your birthday-”
“July seventh,” Nina cut Mr. Sweet off.
“Yes, July seventh and Eddie,” Mr. Sweet looked at his son. “And I believe that’s someone else’s birthday too.”
“It’s Joy’s,” Nina cut in again.
Mr. Sweet gave Nina a glance then Eddie.
“Is it someone else’s birthday too?” Nina asked.
Eddie smiled at Nina, “Guilty, July seventh is my birthday too.”
“Oh,” Nina said, somewhat embarrassed.
“And that’s not the only thing you have in common,” Mr. Sweet said, again glancing from his son to Nina. The students had a questioning look on their face. “You two also have the same dad.”
